Steinen is a municipality in Schwyz District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland.
Steinen has an area, as of 2006, of 11.9 km (4.6 sq mi). Of this area, 52.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 22.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 10.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (14.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
It is located between Rossberg and Lake Lauerz.
Steinen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 3,182. As of 2007, 7.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 11.8%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (94.6%), with Italian being second most common ( 1.7%) and Serbo-Croatian being third ( 1.1%).
